LIONS EYE BANK OF NEW JERSEY CELEBRATES EYE DONOR MONTH

The Lions Eye Bank of New Jersey has planned special events to commemorate National Eye Donor Month, first proclaimed by the President in 1983 and upheld by Congress every March to improve understanding of the ongoing need for eye donation.

The Eye Bank will host its first Donor Memorial Ceremony on Sunday, March 13, to honor families who have given others a second chance for sight by donating the corneas of their loved ones. During 2010, the Eye Bank provided 524 corneas for transplantation to patients in New Jersey.

Then, the Eye Bank’s annual Open House will be held on Thursday, March 24 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Eye Bank staff look forward to welcoming friends and partners to visit, to follow the path of a cornea from donation to transplantation, and to hear the words of a grateful cornea recipient. For further information, please contact the Eye Bank at (732) 382-3060 or visit www.lionseyebanknj.org. We also invite you to follow us on Facebook!
