Donations like this allow the need-based scholarship fund at Northern Highlands Regional High School to continue to give back to their students.  This unique scholarship is primarily a NEED-based scholarship, available to Northern Highlands’ students and alumni. Applicants are carefully evaluated anonymously by code numbers, by an outside independent financial advisor; decisions are based on demonstrated financial need. In 2012, 17 students shared $40,900 in scholarship money.

The NHRHS Scholarship Fund Inc. began in 1990 with the death of Allendale resident, Ruth Jakobi. Her late husband, Gerard Jakobi, initiated a trust to take care of his wife, and upon her death, the remainder of their estate was given in trust to Northern Highlands to assist students with significant financial needs, who want to go to college.  This trust also provided for a committee to be established to oversee the scholarship. Over the years, the committee has solicited Highlands’ families, local businesses, and civic groups to add additional monies to the amount provided by the Jakobi trust.  Any support and donations are greatly needed in order to help more students.

Many families in our four communities could benefit from this scholarship due to financial hardship. Now is a good time to be locally charitable. As you finalize plans for your donations, please consider the NHRHS Scholarship Fund Inc.-the only local scholarship available to our students which is based upon financial need. Please make a donation to the NHRHS Scholarship Fund Inc.; any amount is greatly appreciated! All contributions are tax deductible and may qualify for your employer’s matching-gift program. NHRHS Scholarship Fund Inc. is a 501(c) (3) Corporation.  Donations can be made through the Northern Highlands Guidance Office.
