District 16B Charitable Foundation Trustees held the Annual Charity Ball inviting attendees to don the costumes and paint their faces. On October 25th the ghouls and goblins found their way to La Bove Grande (Circle Landmark) on Lakehurst NJ. Beginning with various hot and cold hors’deouvres and cocktails the revelers appeared at 6 p.m. greeted by Foundation President Paul Cousineau, in his Fred Flintstone costume and PDG Pat Pennell. Raffle tickets, of course it’s a Lions charity function, were available for sale to win various prizes and baskets ranging from fire extinguishers, hand knitted afghan with pillows, iPods, Surface R/T, a bath & body beauty aids basket, a Lenox Vase, Kindle Fire and a Kindle HDX. Topping the prizes was a 39” flat screen TV.
In his remarks, President Paul Cousineau indicated that LCIF has approved a grant to LEEDS, a District 16B Project, with which the Foundation partnered to provide 5 new spot Vision Screeners, and with LCIF for their matching funds program for sight related projects. This is one of the ways, your Foundation helps the clubs in District 16B. Funding these screeners will assist all of the clubs to provide eye screening services to pre-schools through kindergarten classes in each community for years to come.
During the event, for which Lion Larry Kasar & Son provided entertainment for the fourth year, a costume stroll was initiated and judged by Lion Tom DeBruin and PCC Bob Virgadamo. The winners were: 1st Place to Ed & Lucia DiPolvere for their America theme, 2nd Place to IPDG Craig Finnegan for his colorful and lifelike zombie outfit and oozing blood, and 3rd Place to Lion Paul Morin & his wife Xenia for their Viking/Hun characters.
The luckiest lady on this night was Lion Linda Harris who was speechless after her number was picked to win the LG Flat screen 39” TV set.
The District 16B Charitable Foundation Trustees wish to thank all of our participants for joining in to make this a fun event and for their generous contributions through these raffles and prizes.
