Bergenfield Lions Club Supports Lions Eye Bank of New Jersey

At the May meeting of the Bergenfield Lions Club, Cathy Wasner, Community Coordinator for the Lions Eye Bank of New Jersey, accepted a check for $1,000.00 from Treasurer Rick Chittum as President Judy Verga looked on.

The Lions Eye Bank is a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration of sight. Their corneal transplant surgeons and staff make the gift of sight possible through the many donors who have made the choice to give someone a second chance for sight. Their efforts in 2012 produced the tissue for more than 1000 transplants in New Jersey and beyond.

Recipients range in age from infancy to the very old. In accepting the donation, Wasner told the story of twin girls, Madison and Malia, born with congenital blindness whose only hope was an emergency corneal transplantation. Now at age 11, they love to write, read and color. They were given a childhood filled with sight and

learning thanks to a charitable community and the selfless generosity of eye donors.
